Summary of new contributions of the thesis:

The research results showed that there was no significant difference between the 2 study groups in terms of improvement in NIHSS scores on discharge and after 6 months. The rate of NIHSS ≤ 5 accounted for a higher proportion in the drug combination group. There were statistically significant differences in muscle strength improvement and disability level in the cilostazol and aspirin group in comparison with mere aspirin group after 6 months. There was no difference between the 2 study groups in terms of bleeding risk during treatment; the combination group had a lower rate of stroke recurrence than the group taking only one drug. Using cilostazol in combination with aspirin reduced the degree of vascular stenosis, prevented the progression of stenosis, regressed to and stabilized the carotid intima-media thickness, improved blood lipid index, lowered LDL-C level and increased HDL- C level in comparison with mere aspirin.

One of important results of the thesis is that the author has shown the therapeutic effects of the regimen combining aspirin with cilostazol on patients with acute cerebral infarction and its prophylactic effects, which are better than using aspirin alone in spite of the same bleeding risk. Using aspirin in combination with cilostazol helped to reduce the degree of cerebral artery stenosis and stabilize the intima-media thickness better than using aspirin alone.

These are positive results that have scientific significance and help clinical practice.
